Serpent Ridge Vineyard
Located in Westminster, Maryland and run by two retired information technology managers, Karen and Hal, Serpent Ridge Vineyard is a great winery in Frederick County. The vineyard has been established since 2004 and the tasting room was opened in 2009. Karen and Hal, the current owners, procured the winery in 2013. They do a combination of growing and sourcing their grapes and they use French and American oak to age their wines. You can frequently find live music, food trucks and events like happy hours, yoga and wine dinners for enjoyable visits throughout the year. We had our most recent visit to this winery in October 2024. The winery was decorated for fall with gourds and pumpkins on the tables inside. As soon as you walk out the door of this tasting room, you see numerous, well-manicured vines for a lovely view. Our favorite wines from our tastings this time around were the seyval blanc, pinot gris and the vidal blanc. We did a bottle review podcast on the seyval and included the pinot gris in our vertical tasting with food pairing article so check those out! The seyval was medium-bodied with medium acidity and notes of red apple, lime, ginger and dried apricot. The pinot gris had great, bright acidity and minerality. The vidal was full of fruit including banana and pineapple. All were available at moderate prices. Fall is probably the best time to get out to your local wineries for a visit so do so before the season is over!
