Two Lions Vineyard
We had the pleasure of visiting Two Lions Vineyard on April 6, 2024. The first thing you will notice is how gorgeous the property is. This charming, picturesque vineyard in Southern Maryland is also a wedding and private event venue and you can immediately see why. Owners Brad and Callie Hankey planted their first vines here in 2019 and are now fortunate enough to have 11 grape varietals planted across 11.5 acres. They have a passion for old-world style wines and it comes through in the glass. Once we entered the tasting room, we were escorted to a table and taken care of by knowlegeable staff. We split some flights to taste through the wines being offered that day. Three stood out for us - the Noble Blackbird, Folie a Deux and The Sainty Lion. The Noble Blackbird had strong tannins, black fruit and earthy plum flavors. Folie a Deux, a chambourcin and merlot blend, was jammy, earthy and smoky with cherry and pepper notes. The Sainty Lion is a merlot and cabernet franc blend with strong tannins, blackberry, plum, smoke and cocoa on the palate. Towards the end of our visit, we got to chat briefly with one of the owners, Brad, who was graciously checking on and chatting with all of the people visiting the winery that Saturday. They have recently planted malbec and petit verdot so keep an eye out for those varietals two years from now. They have recently re-opened for the season so check out this relatively new, beautiful winery making some great red blends.
